Real Weddings Dazzling Dresses: The Jewelry Collection of Elizabeth Taylor
Looking for a unique addition to your bridal style? Some glamorous, original and undoubtedly priceless items will be hitting the block in a couple months.
Earlier this year, we lost a Hollywood legend, style icon and world humanitarian. Elizabeth Taylor captured the hearts and imaginations of generations with her beauty, wit, talent and compassion. Now, one of her most prized collections and loves, her jewelry, will be auctioned by Christies in New York late this fall.
“Elizabeth Taylor’s passion for jewelry was well-known, but it is her depth of knowledge about fine jewelry that truly impresses,” says François Curiel, International Jewelry Director and President of Christie’s Asia. “From the first time I met her in 1998, it was clear that she possessed an expert’s eye for craftsmanship, rarity, quality and history.
She collected the best pieces from the best periods, and as a result her collection boasts exquisite examples from the most celebrated of jewelry designers, including BVLGARI, Boucheron, Cartier, JAR, Schlumberger, Tiffany, and Van Cleef & Arpels, among others. Elizabeth Taylor always planned to offer her collection of jewelry at auction and I hope that the next owner of each of these iconic pieces will enjoy and respect these jewels just as much as she did, and as she herself said, ‘give them a really good home’”.
The spectacle begins with a global three-month tour that kicks off September 15 in Moscow. The tour will then continue on to London, Los Angeles, Dubai, Geneva, Paris, and Hong Kong before arriving in New York for a 10-day exhibition leading up to the first auction on December 13. The total selection of 269 magnificent jewels from this storied collection is estimated to achieve well in excess of $30 million.
A class act to the very end, monies generated by exhibition admissions, events and publications related to the sales will be donated to The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation (ETAF). Founded in 1991, ETAF provides funding to AIDS service organizations throughout the world to assist those living with HIV and AIDS.

Rent High-End Jewelry for Your Wedding Day!
Want to look like a million bucks on your wedding day? Well, let’s be real, what bride doesn’t?! But in all seriousness, now you can rock Elizabeth Taylor-like bling without paying the hefty five-figured price tag.
Introducing Red Carpet Jewels, a new jewelry rental site that launched last month. The jewelry featured is fit for royalty, and can be yours for a day at an extremely discounted price. Necklaces, some worth as much as $60,000, can be rented at a cost ranging from $75-$1,800. The site also carries earrings and bracelets.
So, how does it work? Visit the site and become a registered member to view the specific pieces available on the day of your event. Once you pick your pieces, you’ll check out and pay 25 percent of the rental fee (along with the deposit). You’ll receive the jewelry two to three days prior to the day of your event and the pieces must be shipped back within the two days following said event. During that time, the remaining balance will be applied to your credit card, and once the pieces are safely returned, you’ll be credited for the deposit. It’s that easy, so start browsing for the pieces that will help you really sparkle on your big day!

We Love This Necklace!
We just got this killer necklace from our girl Katherine at Cotton Candy Sugar Rush.
Trivia note: this uber-stylish bride (along with her husband Scott) is actually one of our featured Real Weddings couples in the current issue of Real Weddings Magazine! Want to see her story? Click here.
But, let’s get back to this amazing necklace…Katherine is graciously allowing us to use some of her super-cool jewelry for our upcoming cover model finalist photo shoot.
We’re just so jazzed about this necklace (and, frankly, all of her jewelry!) that we just couldn’t contain ourselves, and we had to share (we admit our little photo here doesn’t quite do the necklace justice — but check back in a couple of months to see it in action in the photos to appear in our upcoming Summer/Fall 2011 issue of Real Weddings Magazine!).
Yeah, we’re like giddy little school girls over here right now! Enjoy!
Can’t wait until the Summer/Fall issue of Real Weddings Magazine to see more of Katherine’s Cotton Candy Sugar Rush jewelry? Check out her web site and “like” her Facebook page!
