Real Weddings: Blogs We Like…Catrina Maria Event Planning and Design
Here’s a local gal we love to follow! Catrina Maria, the owner and founder of Catrina Maria Event Planning and Design, graduated from Sac State in 2001 with a Bachelor’s degree in liberal studies and spent five years overseeing gorgeous and fabulous weddings at one of the area’s beautiful country clubs from 2000 to 2005. Then she decided to go solo.
“I keep function and ease in mind,” says the entrepreneur of her event planning business.
And does Catrina have a great eye! We adore her sense of style, from posts on fabulous florals to divine dresses. Plus she’s big on spotting new wedding trends that are sure to take our region by storm. Check out her regular blog here and get inspired!

CATRINA MARIA DESIGNS Event Planning and Design
Tell us a little about your company? Catrina Maria Designs is a wedding planning service that combines innovative design, professional coordination, and personalized planning.
When did you establish your business? 2005
What sets you apart from your competition? I stay on top of the trends and I have an eye for what will be in style for the upcoming year and beyond. I also have experience in food and beverage — and my thorough understanding of the “behind the scenes” of the catering have given me an edge. My goal is to simplify the planning in an enjoyable way!
Where do you find inspiration? I find inspiration within each couple — knowing that I was a part of their magical day brings a smile to my face. I love how I am friends with many of my past couples still today. I love Anthropologie’s window displays, nature, dilapidated barns, and pull inspiration from the way things make me feel.
When you opened shop, what was your promise to your customers? To make the planning process simple with my expertise and ensure that every event reflects and celebrates each couple’s unique love story and style.
Do you have any hidden talents? I can sew and love fabric and textures!
What trend do you see coming for weddings this year? Lots of pastels, from flowers to bridesmaids’ dresses.
Do you regularly blog? If so, what’s your blog site? Yes, catrinamaria.wordpress.com
Do you Facebook? Twitter? Pinterest? Google+? Yes for all.
What’s your favorite local restaurant? Easy one…Mulvaney’s
What is your favorite fun thing to do locally? To go out and enjoy all of the great restaurants that we have here in Sacramento, all while enjoying some great company.
What are you most grateful for in life? The beauty in being swept away by love.
If you were to plan your own wedding, or re-do your wedding, what elements would be most important to you? Videography, that way you can go back and see all of the things that you missed during the day. The same elements would still be important 10 years later: the support and love of family and the strength that comes from this.
What advice would you can give to brides and grooms getting married today? Just relax and enjoy the day, and don’t forget to eat!

Real Weddings Partner Profiles: The Venue Vixens
Welcome back to another installment of Real Weddings Magazine’s Partner Profiles!
This week we highlight four fabulous women from The Venue Vixens! Lora Ward, Catrina Arcularius, Kendra Pfeiffer-Wershing and Laurie Schmalzel are a dynamic foursome of experienced professional wedding and event planners. They created The Venue Vixens to help brides like you find the perfect wedding venue. Take it away ladies!
The Venue Vixens
Tell us a little about your company? We are four experienced planners who love to find new and interesting venues to share with our brides.
When did you establish your business? In 2010 as a group, but we’ve been around forever!
What sets you apart from your competition? Our site search is custom and appeals to a bride looking for an off the beaten path venue or something out of the ordinary.
Where do you find inspiration? Each venue we visit inspires us in some way. Some show us how creative we need to be (to hide all the bad parts) and others inspire us to plan our own weddings again. It’s pretty easy to stay inspired when you have four ladies with too much energy and a love for weddings.
When you opened shop, what was your promise to your customers? To continue updating our Web site in hopes that every bride will use our resource in choosing their wedding site.
Do you regularly blog? If so, what’s your blog site? Yes, www.thevenuevixens.com/category/blog/
What’s your favorite local restaurant? Hands down I think all four of us agree it is Mulvaney’s (They didn’t pay us to say that!).
What is your favorite fun thing to do locally? Farmers’ markets and 2nd Saturday
Do you have secret vice or indulgence? What is it? Gossiping about other people in the industry!
What are you most grateful for in life? All of our beautiful children.
What advice would you can give to brides and grooms getting married today? Pick a venue that speaks to you and don’t be so concerned about distance or convenience for everyone. The people you want most to be there will be!
