Real Weddings Dazzling Dresses: World Record for Longest Wedding Train
A couple weeks ago it was Twilight brides in London holding the world record spotlight. This time, it’s a Romanian design house shattering records with the longest bridal train ever. A two-mile train to be exact.
The Bucharest fashion label hired 10 seamstresses to toil away for 100 days on the project. The imported material alone, including French lace and Italian taffeta, cost around $7,300. That’s not including labor and the dramatic floating runway show. Yes… a hot-air balloon. How else are you going to display a train as long as the width of Manhattan?
A model wearing the dress and train was hoisted into the air outside Bucharest’s Palace of the Parliament, for all the world to see-in particular-The Netherlands. The Dutch country previously held the longest train record at under a mile.
If a real bride were to walk down the aisle in that dress, she’d need a venue the size of four football fields and an entire NFL team of bridesmaids to hold the train. Even if Elizabeth Taylor stitched together all her eight bridal trains and threw in Princess Di’s and lovely Kate’s for fun, she wouldn’t even have come close. Way to go Romania. Now who’s going to top that?

Real Weddings Dazzling Dresses: Twilight Madness
Hello my darling Real Weddings brides. Happy Friday (yes, we know we usually do our Dazzling Dresses posts on Thursday but we’re mixing things up and posting on Friday instead)! With this extra hour of sunlight I’m in a particularly cheery mood this week. Let’s have some fun with today’s post!
Most brides find inspiration for their dress in fashionable women who went down the aisle before them, be it Grace Kelly, Jackie O, or more recently, Duchess Kate. Well, some even choose the big screen for their divine intervention… and in this unique instant, that cinema character was Bella Swan from Twilight.
I’m going to come out of the bridal closet and admit I’ve never jumped on the Twilight bandwagon. I haven’t read the books or seen the movies. I’m going to blame it on vampire fatigue, having endured this gothic trend once before during my younger years in the ’90s. I just can’t bear to sink my fangs in another blood-sucking romantic storyline. Sorry. I’m sure I’ll lose readers over that confession. But even so, I respect all of your passion for this trilogy. Be it Team Jacob or Team Edward, or whatever it is.
Clearly, I am outnumbered by the looks of the crowd that assembled in Britain this last weekend to celebrate the DVD release of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1. From what I can tell from the photos, hundreds of women dressed in their bridal best came together at a HMV store in London in hopes to set the world record for longest chain of brides in one location. No dress critiques for this one… just check out the mass of white wear in a single place. Impressive ladies. Now if you can just get me interested in this Twilight phenom, you’ll really dazzle me.

Real Weddings Dazzling Dresses: Elizabeth Smart in Alita Graham
Ten years ago, Elizabeth Smart made headlines for her high-profile kidnapping. Now the beautiful 24-year-old is once again in the media spotlight, but this time for happier reasons…her wedding! After announcing her engagement to 22-year-old Matthew Gilmour recently, the blushing bride surprised everyone with a private affair on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii.
Pushing the original wedding date of July 1 to February 18 wasn’t without its challenges, especially finding the perfect dress at the 11th hour.
“I tried on just about every dress in Utah,” Smart told People magazine. “I was going to New York with my friend for the weekend and we thought, ‘Why don’t we just see if we can get into Kleinfeld’s and look around?’” The change of location proved inspiring and she quickly found her dream dress. The Alita Graham gown with lace sleeves and a sweetheart neckline was purchased at the famed boutique, also home to TLC’s reality show, “Say Yes to the Dress.” Said Smart, “It was traditional, but still was different. I felt like it was just perfect.”
We think she looks absolutely lovely. And kudos to the groom for the dashing kilt!
