Real Weddings Inspiration Board: Presenting Alicia and Tyler Thomson

The Couple:  Alicia and Tyler Thomson

Wedding Date:  October 17, 2009

Photography by Jodi Yorston Photography

Tell us a little about you and your beloved:  My husband and I went to high school together but never hung out. We started hanging out through a mutual friend after high school and things just started going from there.

I went away to school for a year but came back after not liking the school. Our relationship started to get stronger from there, and we dated for about  five and a half years. Long story short, he asked me to marry him, and we got married a year later!

We have been together for about seven years now, and I couldn’t imagine my life any different. I found my best friend, my soul mate, the person who completely understands me and loves me for me, and I love him for him. We can be completely goofy or out of control together and feel like we don’t have a care in the world. Life is good.

What was the most amazing part of your day?  I would say the most amazing part of the day was just seeing all the people who came out to celebrate our wedding. It was so great seeing people that we haven’t seen for a while and quickly catching up and dancing the night away with all of our family and friends. Of course it was awesome when we said “I do” as well.

What else would you like to share about your big day?  A funny thing happened during our ceremony. My husband and I were going through all the typical ceremony things and in the middle of it all, he leaned over and kissed me, before we were pronounced husband and wife.

I replied with “You’re not supposed to kiss me yet!” to which he replied “I don’t care!” It had everyone laughing and it eased my nerves as we were standing there in front of everyone going through the rest of the ceremony. I will never forget that!

Ceremony Site:  The Old Sugar Mill

Reception Venue:  The Old Sugar Mill

Photographer: Jodi Yorston Photography

Videographer:  My family

Cake:  We had a chocolate fountain that we coordinated through our caterer in lieu of a cake.

Flowers:  The Right Touch Florist

Favors:  We had frosted Chinese take out boxes empty with a candy bar for people to fill them with whichever candy they desired.

Wedding Dress:  PW Jitters

Bridesmaid Dresses:  PW Jitters

Hair:  Image Provocateur

Makeup:  Image Provocateur

Invitations:  DIY

DJ/Entertainment:  Sound Image Entertainment

Honeymoon location:  We went to Disneyland to just relax after the wedding, but we are planning our real honeymoon now which is a three week trip to Europe.

First Dance Song:  “Then” by Brad Paisley

Any advice you’d give to our readers who are planning their weddings right now?  I would say to not sweat the small stuff. You think it is so important when you are in the moment trying to get everything done, but, really, no one notices. Everyone is just so happy to be celebrating your day, no one cares (or knows) that the napkins are one shade lighter than you wanted them to be.

Anything that you would have done differently if you were given the chance?  I would probably have gotten a professional videographer. Don’t get me wrong, my family did an awesome job capturing the moments for us, but I still have not put them all together to have an actual DVD of the day. They are just clips sitting on my computer. I just wish it was all done for me already.

Real Weddings Magazine Inspiration Board: Presenting Kimberly Armstrong & Julien McAdams

The Couple:  Kimberly Armstrong and Julien McAdams

(Editor’s Note: If Kimmi looks familiar, she should — Kimmi was our cover model winner for our Winter/Spring 2010 issue!)

Wedding Date:  July 3, 2010

Photography by Jodi Yorston Photography

Tell us a little about you and your beloved:  Julien and I met when I got into a fender bender with someone in a parking lot. He came over to make sure I was all right and to assure me that everything would turn out okay. It turned out more than just okay…I’ve now got a husband and a whole new chapter of my life to look forward to.

What was the most amazing part of your day?  I have to say, the most amazing part of the day was when we had the last song of the night. Our DJ, Anthony, put on the song we had planned for “It Had To Be You,” by Harry Connick, Jr. Anthony had everyone make a circle around Julien and I as we danced and it looked as if we had choreographed our every move. We were enjoying the day and each other so much that it made the dance look like as if it was planned. Everyone then ended up separating into their own groups so they too could enjoy the last dance of our wedding.

What else would you like to share about your big day?  Our wedding was truly meant to reflect the people that Julien and I are. We are still told to this day that our wedding was amazing and people felt like they were getting to experience us and how we are as a couple. The day was filled with great weather, a smokin’ hot wedding party, good food, good drinks and the wonderful people that we care about. An unforgettable experience.

Cake:  Family member, Shelly, made the cake for our wedding gift.

Flowers:  Camino Flower Shop

Wedding Dress:  I took a chance and bought the dress online to be made. It was a big ordeal, but I got lucky and had an amazing dress.

Bridesmaid Dresses:  Purchased at ROSS

Hair:  Hoshall’s Salon

Makeup:  Hoshall’s Salon

Invitations:  DIY

DJ/Entertainment/Band:  A&A Music & Events  (EVERYBODY loved Anthony — he made my day)

Honeymoon location:  Cabo San Lucas (we purchased it the Thursday before the wedding with thanks to our moms!)

First Dance Song:  “Sunshine,” by Steve Azar

Any advice you’d give to our readers who are planning their weddings right now?  If you have any vendors that you know you will be using, ask them for suggestions on venues. Using the “grapevine” that these professionals already have, might make it easier to find the place of your dreams. Also, I would definitely have your makeup and hair professionally done. What a difference it makes on how you FEEL about yourself when a professional gets you “camera ready.”

Anything that you would have done differently if you were given the chance?  I would have been a little more clear on it being an adults only wedding. We loved having the children there, but it made the money situation for us difficult. Also, I would have slowed myself going down the aisle. It is important to not let yourself rush through anything, even if it’s because you’re excited.

Real Weddings Partner Profile: Dynamic Images Salon & Day Spa

Welcome back to another installment of Real Weddings Magazine’s Partner Profiles!

This week, we have the honor of profiling the talented Fay Linson, owner of Dynamic Images Salon & Day Spa in Placerville.  We got to work with Fay on our recent cover model finalist photo shoot — her team provided the hair and make-up for or cover model finalist, Kate (featured in the middle on our Spring 2010 cover below). Take it away Fay!

Fay (bottom row middle) with her team.

Dynamic Images Salon  & Day Spa

What’s your specialty?  Taking care of all your beauty needs pre-wedding (hair care, skin care, massage, nail care), then making your hair and makeup wedding day perfect.

When did you establish your business?  We’ve been in business since 1976, and I purchased the business from my parents in 2000.

What sets you apart from your competition?  Consistency, stellar customer service, compassion.

Where do you find inspiration?  Big cities, kids in the streets, the runways, the Internet, trade journals.

When you opened shop, what was your promise to your customers?  My promise is to do everything within my power to meet and exceed your expectations.

Do you have any hidden talents?  I make fabulous chicken enchilladas and am a great softball mom.

What color gives you the most joy?  Any shade of green.

What song is the soundtrack to your business day (or at least to how you feel right now)?  OK, this is not really business but I just downloaded “Low Rider” for my cell phone ring because it makes me smile and my head starts to bob on it’s own accord whenever I hear it. And no, I do not have a low rider, I have a Caddy.

What is your favorite flower? Gerbera Daisy – happy flowers!

Do you regularly blog?  No, but I need to.

Where is your favorite place to travel?  Hawaii and New York.

What’s your favorite local restaurant?  HeyDay Cafe for their HeyDay Salad with grilled Ahi, yum!

What’s your favorite local charity?  The Women’s Shelter, which is no longer just for women.

If you weren’t in the wedding industry, what would you be doing?  I can’t even imagine anything else.

What three things are you most grateful for in life?  My family, our health, good friends.

If you were to plan your own wedding, or re-do your wedding, what element would be most important to you?  Outside wedding with all my family there.

What is the best advice you can give to brides and grooms getting married today?  Marriages are not 50/50, they are more like 30/70 – but who is the 30 and who is the 70 should go back and forth.

Anything else you’d like to share with Real Weddings Magazine’s brides?  Your wedding day is a one shot deal. Make it fabulous, devote your time and energy before hand – but on the day of, relax and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Find out more about Fay and her team at Dynamic Images Salon & Day Spa’s Web site or call her at 530-622-5436.
