The Deadline for Real Weddings Magazine’s Cover Model Contest is Almost Here!
Are you a real Sacramento-area bride or recently-wed with cover aspirations?
The deadline for Real Weddings Magazine’s cover model contest is almost here – the last day to get your entry in is January 31, 2011, but don’t wait until the last minute to get your entry form (and photos!) in. Get moving now brides!
Want to know more about the cover model contest? Well, then, read on!
Each issue of Real Weddings Magazine features real local-area brides on its cover!
Hundreds of real brides enter, and ultimately three are chosen. Those three real brides get to participate in a day-long photo shoot where they get the chance to vogue it up in front of the camera.
All three of our real bride models will appear on one of our Real Weddings Magazine covers (like the Spring 2011 cover featured above with our cover brides Shelbie, Terra and Elizabeth) and then ultimately, one of our real bride models will be chosen as our cover model winner and appear on the cover of Real Weddings Magazine on her own (like the Winter 2011 cover featured below with our cover model winner Shelbie).
For the Summer/Fall 2011 contest, if you’re a local bride or a local just-married (cannot be married before June 1, 2010) and you’ve got cover aspirations, then you need to enter! Again, the deadline to get your entry in is January 31, 2011, so get movin’ toots!
Need an entry form? Click here to download it now!
If you’re going to enter…one word of advice, show us your personality on the answers to the questions — we love working with brides who have a lot of spunk, personality, humor and who are just darned cool girls. Be sure that your answers really reflect who you are! Oh, and don’t forget to include photos that really show your personality coming through as well!
Also, be sure to read all of the rules to make sure that you’re eligible to enter and are game to participate!
We cannot wait to see your entries so get them in soon!

Reminder… Celebrate Coloma Weddings: Discover Your Treasure Event Tomorrow!
Just a reminder Real Weddings Brides!
This Saturday is the big day for the Celebrate Coloma Weddings: Discover Your Treasure Event! We look forward to seeing you tomorrow!
Here’s the 411 on the upcoming event:
Don’t miss this unique, one-of-a-kind wedding showcase on Saturday, January 15th.
Introducing the Celebrate Coloma Weddings: Discover Your Treasure Event!
During this unique event, you’ll have the opportunity to visit the wedding venues in the beautiful and historic Coloma Valley. Tour the facilities, taste food from the venues’ preferred caterers and meet other top wedding vendors from the local area.
All participating venues are within 1.5 miles of each other. The event runs from 1-5 p.m. so you will have plenty of time to visit all the venues!
Tucked away on Hwy 49 between Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe, the Coloma Valley is nestled in California’s Gold Country. With outstanding venues, beautiful scenery, and fabulous vendors, this event is not to be missed! The show producers say, “No matter your budget, theme, or unique vision, we have a venue to meet your needs — and planners to help get you there!”
Each of the venues will be providing their own prizes so you’ll want to make sure you register at each of the venues you tour so you can be in the running for all the fabulous prizes that will be given away. Bring labels brides…hint, hint!
And ladies, here’s a suggestion: If you’re bringing your groom along, you might want to drop him off at the Sierra Nevada House (corner of Hwy 49 and Lotus Rd) for some “guy time.” Sierra Nevada House will have football on the big screen, brews and snacks on hand all day. And, once your fella is settled in for some guy fun, you and your girls can make your way leisurely through the tour.
The event is free to attend, but pre-registration is encouraged. Click here to register in advance!
Visit any of these participating venues from 1-5 p.m. on January 15th. We’ll be at the Coloma Country Inn handing out complimentary copies of the newest issue of Real Weddings Magazine, along entry forms for our next cover model contest!!!

Real Weddings Magazine Inspiration Board: Presenting Deedra and Brian Lonquist
The Couple: Deedra and Brian Lonquist
Wedding Date: June 27, 2010
Photography by Capture Photography
Tell us a little about you and your beloved: Brian and I met back in 2003. I worked at the UPS Store, and he worked for FedEx. It took Brian eight months to ask me out, and we have been together ever since.
We are truly each other’s best friend and confidant. Brian proposed exactly one year after our first date, Valentine’s Day 2004. At the time, I was in school and told him that we would wait to get married until after I graduated. Well, I graduated in 2005, and we got married five years later!
It was a long engagement, but couldn’t have been better timing. Currently I am using my Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design as an Editor/Communications Specialist for an association and Brian works for Boldt Construction, scheduled to graduate in May of 2011 with a Bachelor’s in Construction Management.
What was the most amazing part of your day? For me it was the very moment my dad took my hand to walk me down the aisle. Seeing everyone there all at once, and hearing the powerful words of the music in the background, made me almost start hyperventilating.
I started to cry, and my dad looked and me and squeezed my hand tight to help calm me. It was so amazing and overwhelming all at once. The past eight years just flooded my mind. It was really happening! So amazing.
Ceremony Site: Lakeside Beach, Lake Tahoe
Reception Venue: Lakeside Beach Grill

Wedding Dress: David’s Bridal
Bridesmaid Dresses: David’s Bridal

Makeup: Heather Adams of Brockway Hair Design
Invitations: DIY by Deedra
DJ/Entertainment/Band: Lake Tahoe Entertainment
Honeymoon location: Lake Tahoe
Any other of your wedding vendor(s) you’d like to call out? Rowena Pegg, from Lakeside Beach Weddings! She was so laid back and really made my experience less stressful. I had so many compliments about the staff from the reception. They did a wonderful job!
By far, I was so thrilled by my photographer, Shellie Kennedy from Capture Photography. She brought to life all of the hard work I did in planning my wedding. I can’t tell you the excitement I felt when I first saw the pictures from the wedding.
First Dance Song: Songbird by Eva Cassidy
Any advice you’d give to our readers who are planning their weddings right now? Try and take your time. Give yourself plenty of time to do your homework and research, a year would be ideal.
You really want to have an idea of what it is that YOU and your future husband want. You will be inundated with other peoples’ ideas, desires and demands.
Please remember that this day is about you and your mate, not about mom, or grandma, sister, friend… Don’t be afraid to say no.
Most importantly, make sure you have a budget to go off of. It is so important. It is really difficult to plan anything without one.
Choose your wedding party wisely. You will need people who are willing to do anything for you, no matter what.
Keep a detailed binder of everything…your research, your quotes, your ideas, your receipts, etc. It will pay off to be organized!
Be choosy when it comes to selecting a photographer. They are responsible for capturing the most important day of your life. Don’t choose a photographer because their prices are cheap. You will certainly be disappointed. Have a decent budget set aside for a photographer. I highly recommend my photographer. The day of the wedding goes by so quickly. Having beautiful pictures to look back to remember the day is absolutely priceless!
When it comes to invitations, be weary of size and bulkiness. I handmade my invitations and they were beautiful, but the cost for postage alone was $1.40 each.
Remember that something is always bound to go wrong, no matter how organized your are. Just accept it now, and your day will go more smoothly.
Anything that you would have done differently if you were given the chance? I probably would have gone with a local florist. My flowers were beautiful, but transporting them from Sacramento to Lake Tahoe had its challenges.
I would have liked to have someone take pictures of all the details I worked so hard on, and of my guests. I kept my photographer busy taking pictures of us!
Also, I would have done something different for my guest book. We had a simple guest book with 100 pages or so and everyone just signed their name. I wish people would have taken a page a piece giving us advice, etc.
But overall I don’t have any complaints. Our wedding was perfect!

Real Weddings Dazzling Dresses: Best Celebrity Wedding Gowns of 2010
Hello my darling Real Weddings Brides! Let’s finish off the year with a little celebrity eye candy.
2010 was jam-packed with celebrity weddings and, of course, plenty of speculation surrounding what famous frock each blushing bride would ultimately wear.
While it was a stellar year for bridal gown picks all around, let’s take a look at four standouts that we think really tore up the aisle.
Princess Victoria of Sweden and Daniel Westling
The Crown Princess’s gown, designed especially for her by Par Engsheden, featured cream duchess satin with a v-shaped back and a round neck.
The five-meter train attached to her waist matched the veil held in place by her tiara, the same worn by her mother, Queen Silvia, at her wedding in 1976.
Alicia Keys and Kaseem Dean
The stunning songstress wore a Grecian style dress by Vera Wang and her husband looked sharp in a Tom Ford tuxedo when they exchanged vows in a private ceremony in Corsica.

Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher
The country singer looked divine next to her new hockey player husband wearing a Chantilly lace and silk organza gown by Monique Lhuillier.
Layout courtesy of People magazine.
Chelsea Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky
One of the biggest, and most hush hush weddings of the year, saw the former first daughter Chelsea Clinton exchange vows in strapless silk organza beauty with embellished belt by Vera Wang.

No doubt 2011 will feature many celeb weddings (can you say Royal Wedding, anyone?!) with even more gorgeous gowns to go gaga over. May 2011 bring you joy!
