Real Weddings Wednesday: Presenting Amy and Doug Muraki

The Couple:  Amy and Doug Muraki

Wedding Date:  October 10, 2010

Photography by Stellasweet Photography

Tell us a little about you and your beloved:  We met at work and had no idea that we actually lived only a block away from each other. We became friends and out of that our love grew. Doug proposed at the most unexpected time — while watching Scrubs on the DVR and eating popcorn! It was perfectly “us.”

What was the most amazing part of your day?  The never ending party. Rather than the bride and broom heading off and leaving the party we kept it going all night. Our close friends and some family brought tents. We pulled the center out of the stage we built and had a fire pit. We made hot chocolate, roasted marshmallows and made s’mores. The next morning we all woke up and continued the celebration! Breakfast the morning after with your best friends and closest family — it was amazing!!

What else would you like to share about your big day?  We had a laid back and low budget wedding that turned out beautifully. Many of our friends have said it was the best wedding they have ever attended — but then again, who doesn’t love Beer Pong? We wanted our wedding feel like “us,” not a formal event planned by someone who didn’t know us. We did everything ourselves from the manual work in the yard, flower arrangements and all setup, to cooking breakfast the next morning!

Ceremony and Reception Site:  Private residence

Photographer:  Stellasweet Photography

Caterer:  California Catering in Auburn & Corralitos Market & Sausage in Aptos

Cake:  Fruit basket for cutting from Freeport Bakery and Cupcakes from Icing on the Cupcake

Flowers:  Mom’s Wholesale Florist. Floral arrangements by myself, Doug, family & friends.

Favors:  Homemade Lemon sugar cookies made by myself, my maid of honor and mother-in-law.

Wedding Dress:  La Soie (formerly Bella Donna). Veil was from my mother-in-law’s wedding.

Bridesmaid Dresses:  Nordstrom-already owned.

Hair:  Sarah Sherman from The Garage in Roseville.

Makeup:  Teshara Pobric from The Garage in Roseville.

Invitations:  Handmade by the Bride! Supplies from The Paper Garden.

DJ/Entertainment/Band:  Rented Speakers & PA from Live Sound Audio–ipod!

Honeymoon location:  El Dorado Maroma in Mexico planned by April Schmitt from All About Honeymoons.

Any other of your wedding vendor(s) you’d like to call out?  One of my best friend’s, John Peterson, who’s father owns Corralitos Market BBQ’d the meat for our event and it was AMAZING!

First Dance Song:  Forever” by Ben Harper

Any advice you’d give to our readers who are planning their weddings right now?  Take a breath and relax! Make the event feel like YOU — not what a wedding is supposed to look like. You can plan a beautiful wedding on a tight budget by DIY projects and staying focused.

Anything that you would have done differently if you were given the chance?  Nothing. It was the most amazing day of my life!

Real Weddings Partner Profile: Stellasweet Photography

Welcome back to another installment of Real Weddings Magazine’s Partner Profiles!

This week we highlight the fabulous Marjorie Branco from Stellasweet Photography!  Not only do we love her for her work — which is spectacular and creative – but also for her professionalism and responsiveness — and if you check out the compliments section on her Web site, it looks like we’re not the only ones who think she’s pretty sweet, too! Take it away Marj!

Stellasweet Photography

Tell us a little about your company?  Stellasweet specializes in wedding and portrait photography.

When did you establish your business?  W hen I was in photography school in 2008, I took an extra course on wedding photography just for fun. I fell in love with wedding photography right then and there so started up Stellasweet with an emphasis on weddings.

Where do you find inspiration?  I find my inspiration from the work of Jerry Ghionis, world famous wedding photographer as well legendary photojournalist Elliot Erwitt. His photos can be hilarious and are some of the best at capturing what it means to be human, happy or sad.

When you opened shop, what was your promise to your customers?   My promise to my customers was that aside from feeling like they can be comfortable working with me, that they would have a product that was way beyond a dollar value. They would have photographs that when they looked at them, would hit them in the heart now and from the rocking chair 60 years from now.

What trend do you see coming in 2011?  I see couples really wanting to have their wedding and engagement photography reflect who they are. I am getting requests for sessions in more and more unique surroundings which is very cool!

Do you regularly blog? If so, what’s your blog site?  I am usually too busy to blog every day or every week but often find it easy to quickly put interesting wedding related links up on my Facebook page. Blog site is blog.stellasweet.com and Facebook is facebook.com/stellasweetphotography

What’s your favorite local restaurant?  I love Indian food so it isn’t unusual to find me at Ruchi on East Bidwell in Folsom. Their Chicken Makani is so good, I can’t bring myself to actually try the rest of the menu.

What’s your favorite local charity?  My favorite local charity is WEAVE. They provide such important immediate and long term help for people dealing with domestic violence.

Do you have secret vice or indulgence? What is it?  No secret about it, I indulge in lattes and greasy hamburgers.

What are you most grateful for in life?  My friends and family. Some of them are far away and we don’t talk much sometimes, but we are always there for each other.

If you were to plan your own wedding, or re-do your wedding, what elements would be most important to you?  If I were to plan my own wedding, it would be way out in nature or some place very old. I like old, historical places that have character or a story of their own. The atmosphere of my wedding venue would be most important to me.

What advice would you can give to brides and grooms getting married today?  Your wedding photography is a high priority, consider talking with your photographer early on about your wedding venue, the set up, where you will be getting ready, etc. We can offer some tips on how to plan and place things to get the best photography.
