Real Weddings Wednesdays: Featuring April and Matthew Fetch
The Couple: April and Matthew Fetch
Wedding Date: October 23, 2010. This date was very special to us. It has both of our favorite numbers, it’s right in the middle of fall (our favorite season), and it was a full moon, which is supposed to mean good luck in love!
Photography by Christopher Kight Photographers
Tell us a little about you and your beloved: My husband and I met when we were 19 years old. We both worked at the same restaurant. We dated for a long time before our engagement. We both felt strongly about finishing school and establishing our careers before getting married. When he did propose to me, we were traveling through Europe. He managed to make it to the top of the Eiffel Tower (which is huge for him, he’s terrified of heights!) before he got down on bended knee and popped the question. He even managed to get someone to videotape it! It was a sweet surprise, and it’s fun to go back and watch the tape!
What was the most amazing part of your day? The most amazing part of our day was being surrounded by our friends and family. It was so great to visit with those I hadn’t seen in awhile. We danced the night away with our loved ones, and it was a blast!
What else would you like to share about your big day? We tried to personalize it to us as much as possible. For example, he is a police officer, and I am a teacher, so our tables were given names such as “the teacher’s lounge” or “the jailhouse” rather than numbers. Also, our DJ helped up come up with the most hysterical bios to introduce our bridal party. Our guests were cracking up and our bridal party was so surprised.
Ceremony Site: SS. Peter and Paul in Rocklin
Reception Venue: Sun City Roseville’s Timber Creek Ballroom
Photographer: Christopher Kight Photographers
Videographer: Dan Comins (a personal friend)
Cake: Freeport Bakery
Flowers: The Party Concierge
Favors: We made them ourselves, they were little boxes filled with candy. We got a lot of our supplies from Michaels and The Dollar Tree!
Wedding Dress: Alfred Angelo
Bridesmaid Dresses: Alfred Angelo
Hair: Jessica Edwards (personal friend and manager of Images Salon in Sacramento)
Makeup: Ann Wagner (personal friend and manager of Estee Lauder in Roseville)
Invitations: Invitations by Dawn
DJ/Entertainment/Band: Matt Brys from Extreme Productions Entertainment (He’s the best!)
Honeymoon location: Jamaica! It was completely last minute, too. We found a really good deal, so we went for it!
First Dance Song: “Making Memories of Us” by Keith Urban. That song was written for us. It described us and our situation perfectly.
Any advice you’d give to our readers who are planning their weddings right now? I am the kind of girl who wants everything to be perfect. I told myself that if I went into my wedding day with that attitude, I was going to have a miserable day. Through all of the stress, I constantly reminded myself that the ONLY important thing was that me and my husband both show up and say ‘I do.’ Everything else is just a bonus.
Was my day perfect? Of course not! It was the ONE rainy Saturday in October so I didn’t get any of the beautiful, sunny outdoor pictures I had been dreaming about, I had a blemish right in the middle of my forehead, we ran late getting ready, and so on. But, I had prepared myself to not sweat the small stuff. And because of that, my wedding day was a BLAST. My advice to you is the advice my husband gives me: the only thing that will ruin a good plan is the dream of a perfect plan. So just roll with the punches and enjoy the day! It’s your day and you’ve worked so hard for it!
Anything that you would have done differently if you were given the chance? We thought it was important to get a hotel room for our wedding night. Looking back, I would have much rather spent it at my home, where it is comfortable and ours. We would have saved money, and not had to go through the hassle of having to pack, deal with check in/out, etc. So don’t do things just because you feel like you’re supposed to, do what works for you.

Real Weddings Partner Profiles: Sun City Roseville’s Timber Creek Ballroom
Welcome back to another installment of Real Weddings Magazine’s Partner Profiles!
Today, we highlight Jenny Giallanza, Catering Director, from Sun City Roseville’s Timber Creek Ballroom. We’ve heard so many rave reviews from brides who have had the opportunity to work with Jenny. With her active presence in the wedding community and her upbeat, positive attitude, it’s no wonder that we all (Real Weddings Magazine included) love Jenny! Take it away Jenny!

Sun City Roseville’s Timber Creek Ballroom
What sets you apart from your competition? Sun City Roseville caters only one wedding per day. We do not have preset blocks of time.
Tell us a little about Sun City Roseville: Although nestled within a community of active senior citizens, you do not need to have blue hair to get married here! Sun City Roseville is open to the public. We accommodate events from 25-300 guests.
When did you establish your business? Sun City Roseville opened in 1995. I have been here since the opening and have been host to more than 500 weddings and special events.
Where do you find inspiration? By surrounding myself with talented professionals in professional organizations such as the National Association of Catering Executives (NACE). I am constantly learning new ways to present old traditions.
I also watch a lot of fashion television. Many of the new trends in fashion eventually become the new bridal trends. This way, I can stay ahead of the curve. I am also forward thinking enough to set the trends too.
What is your favorite restaurant? Marrakesh Restaurant in Sacramento. A unique dining experience.
What is your favorite local charity? Team in Training benefitting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I am currently training for a triathlon with the team and simultaneously raising funds to find a cure for blood cancer.
What is your favorite thing to do locally? Explore the many bike trails in Sacramento and Folsom. We live in such a beautiful area.
What advice would you give to brides and grooms getting married today? Edit, edit, edit. Most guests don’t remember that cube of cheese or the half glass of champagne at your reception.
Spend money on the things that matter and have a lasting impact and enjoy your family and friends who are there to celebrate YOU!

Inspiration Board: Presenting Courtney Nichols and Brian Renick
The Couple: Courtney Nichols and Brian Renick
Wedding Date: August 6, 2010
Photography by Sarah Dawson Weddings & Portraits
Tell us a little about you and your beloved: Brian and I went to the same college around the same time and even played dodge ball against each other, but had never met! We both decided to go on eharmony.com last fall and were matched up instantly. We began chatting online and realized all the commonalities we had, from mutual friends, to our faith, to a love for going to the movies and watching crime shows.
We emailed back and forth for a month, (44 single space pages in a word document once we added it all up!) and had our first date November 7, 2009. We knew within a few weeks that no one else in the world would ever be able to make us happier than each other, and our talks about our future began.
Brian proposed on March 20, 2010 after sending me on a scavenger hunt to all the locations that marked milestones in our relationship, such as our first kiss, where he first knew he loved me, and where we made our relationship official. It was the perfect day and the start to our life together.
What was the most amazing part of your day? The pastor who officiated our wedding suggested that we write our own vows, and even though we were skeptical at first, we are so glad we did. We didn’t share them with each other before hand, and hearing Brian proclaim his love and commitment to me in front of all the people who mean the most to us is a moment I will never forget.
We have had multiple people share how our wedding ceremony was so much more intimate because of our vows, and I will tell every person I meet that writing your own vows is the best way to go.

Honeymoon location: Cancun, Mexico. I work for a school district and school started back up for the year on August 9. We spent our wedding night at the Citizen Hotel in Sacramento, and we are going to the Grand Caribe Park Royal resort over Thanksgiving break. It would not have been possible without the contributions our friends and family made to our honeymoon registry that we set up on www.travelorsjoy.com!
Any other of your wedding vendor(s) you’d like to call out? This wedding would not have been possible without all the time and effort that my mother invested into our big day! She’s amazing! The staff at Timber Creek also were fabulous in their execution of the day and were so flexible with my requests! They even went so far as to bring the meal plates out to the guests to the tune of “Be Our Guest” from Beauty and the Beast, complete with dancing around the room! I will recommend that venue for many years to come!
First Dance Song: I Have and Always Will by Dave Barnes
Any advice you’d give to our readers who are planning their weddings right now? The more personal you make your wedding the more memorable it will be for you and your guests. Throw in personal touches of your interests or aspects of your relationship so that the people attending will really get an idea of who you are together and they will feel more a part of the celebration.
Also, research cheaper ways of doing the ideas that you love. I love pomanders and the look of them at a wedding ceremony and we were able to rent silk ones on etsy.com for much cheaper than buying fresh ones! There are so many resources out there on the Internet, all it takes is a little time and some creativity to achieve the theme and look that you want.
As for advice on the wedding day, someone wise told me that the day goes by so fast and in an instant it will be over. Their suggestion was to take some moments during the day and be a guest at your own wedding. Stop, look around and take in the atmosphere, how you are feeling and how much fun your friends and family are having enjoying your special day. I also woke up before everyone else on my wedding day, and even though I didn’t plan it, I was so grateful for that hour I had to just reflect on my life and what this day means to Brian and I. It put everything in prospective and helped calm my nerves before all the events took place. I would suggest any bride to try and do that, it will make for a much more stress free day!
Anything that you would have done differently if you were given the chance? I would have not chosen to do meal options for the reception. I loved the idea of having my guests choose between a meat dish and a vegetarian dish, but it was such a big hassle in the end. Unless you have guests who have a very strict diet, I would choose one meal for everyone if you want a sit down meal. It makes the seating much easier and you don’t have to keep track of everyone’s choices in order to let the vendor know the food count. The simpler the better!
