Mini-Moon: The Ace Hotel Palm Springs

This one’s for the hipsters out there. Back in the 50s and 60s, Palm Springs was headquarters for cool…an oasis of modernist architecture, swinging jazz and Californians in search of a little desert heat. Today, Palm Springs is back and cooler than ever…even at 110 degrees.

Recommended Resort: The Ace Hotel & Swim Club. This stylish property, built on the foundation of a 1965 Howard Johnson, preserves most of its retro travel lodge heritage, with some new art and design elements thrown in for good measure.

If you traveled the state in the last 30 years on road trips with your folks, the pool side rooms and flagstone walls are sure to generate memories of summer vacations past. But, chances are you never considered those trips as awesome as one to the Ace. Nostalgic twenty- and thirty-somethings drive in by the score and make this one the hottest, most frequented hotels in the desert.

Check in: The Ace Hotel & Swim Club, 701 E. Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Springs. 760-325-9900, www.acehotel.com

Check out: The spa may not be the five-star experience of fancier resorts, but it’s still a great place to hang and relax. The casual environment features cedar-lined treatment rooms and the options of a invigorating massage in a Mongolian yurt. But, you really don’t even need to leave your room to chill out. Enjoy mountain or pool views, amenities from Rudy’s barbershop and a big comfy bed. Some rooms are even equipped with a record player for spinning your favorite vinyl. And, don’t be afraid to bring along your four-legged friend…The Ace has pet friendly rooms too.

Don’t Miss: The pool scene. This perpetual pool party brings guests and together for food, drinks and plenty of sun. On Sundays, DJ Victor Rodriguez spins and cold beverages flow. Somewhere, Sinatra and the gangs are smiling.
