This week, we highlight the dynamic planning duo of Lina and Katrina from UC Davis Conference and Event Services! These gals sure know how to plan a party and they will blow you away with their organization, professionalism and creative ideas! Take it away, ladies…

Tell us a little about your company? We are an event-planning team in the Davis area, specializing in corporate, athletic and special events.
What sets you apart from your competition? Whether you are looking for unique ideas or searching for the perfect venue, we have it all right here with UC Davis Conference and Event Services! Plan your wedding with us and our event-planning team will be your one-stop source for all your event needs, which is why our slogan is “everything you need is already here.”

Can you share a touching story about one of your clients ? We were working with a couple to plan a wedding that was a year out when the bride’s father was diagnosed with a terminal illness. He did not have a long time left to live, so the wedding date was changed to the following month. All of us — the vendors, the facility manager, our planning team — worked together and did a year’s worth of planning in an extremely short period of time. It was crazy!
The bride’s father was able to be there on her special day and walked her down the aisle. He passed away two weeks later. It was such a mix of feelings — joy for the newly wedded couple, sadness for the heartbreaking turn of events – but we were glad that we had the opportunity to help make that day possible in time for the bride’s father to be there.
What’s your favorite local restaurant?
Lina Layiktez (Director): Mikuni’s
Katrina Evans (Marketing Manager): Tazina Bistro in Woodland
What’s your favorite local charity?
Lina: We like to give back to the university.
Katrina: Yeah, most of my paycheck goes to them.
What is your favorite fun thing to do locally?
Lina: Exercise. There are a lot of green spaces and outdoor activities in Davis. The Arboretum is an especially great place with a beautiful 3.2 mile loop through campus.
Do you have secret vice or indulgence? What is it?
Lina: I have many indulgences, but only one vice: Mountain Dew. It’s bad.
Katrina: Bacon makes my day.
Do you have any hidden talents?
Katrina: Lina’s really good at navigating. Truly superb.
Lina: I can also braid hair really well. Thank goodness the ’90s braided hairstyles are coming back.
Katrina: I also have a good memory.
Lina: Yeah, she’s insane with numbers.
If you were to re-do your wedding, what elements would be most important to you?
Lina: I’d do a barn wedding. It’s so pretty with the shabby chic, vintage feel. And it seems much more personal.
Katrina: If I could do it all over again, I’d definitely do fireworks.
Lina: Fireworks? Really?
Katrina: I got married at a place overlooking the Delta. Anyway, due to cost, I let go of a lot of things that I really wanted. If I did it over again, I would have stopped stressing about the price of every little thing and made room in the budget for what I truly wanted on my special day.
What advice would you can give to brides and grooms getting married today?
Lina: Don’t let people stress you out! Often times, too many people get involved in the planning process. Don’t try to please everyone. Just worry about yourselves.
Katrina: Exactly. Have fun! It’s your special day and you should be able to do what you want.
