We absolutely love these words of advice from our Words of Wisdom couple Martha & Rob Andrews, who are celebrating more than 27 years of marriage!

You can see their page in our upcoming Winter/Spring 2012 issue out this week, but we thought we’d give you a sneak peek!

We recently asked this Lincoln couple their secret to a long-lasting marriage. Here’s what they said:

1. Marriage takes an unyielding dedication to commitment—you both go in knowing you are going to have to work at it after the twitterpated wears off. The reality is, there will be times when you switch off carrying the relationship. We feel you really need to get your strength from God to carry it all and to see it through. (And, thankfully, twitterpated doesn’t wear off completely, you just need to make time for it to show itself.)
2. Marriage cannot ever be selfish. Self-fulfilment cannot be the goal. Rather, one must look to fulfill the hopes and dreams of the other, and if each of you is working toward that goal, you cannot help but find yourself fulfilled.
3. Have lots of sex! (Really!)

Today is the 42nd wedding anniversary of our current Real Weddings Magazine’s Featured Words of Wisdom couple, Christie and David Posey.

When we asked Christie and David (who also work together in their business, Lexigraphics Photography) recently what their secret to a long-lasting marriage is, here’s what they had to say:

1. Choose right the first time (take your time).

2. Don’t ever even think about doing anything that would betray your spouse’s trust in you. It’s hard to build a strong marriage in the absence of absolute trust in each other.
