Fisher Photography
Tell us a little about your company? Fisher Photography started in 2005 on the East Coast and is now located in Placerville, CA.
When did you establish your business? 2005
What sets you apart from your competition? I think what sets me apart from my competition is that I am Jodie Fisher (the woman behind the camera), a true heart and soul. May sound super corny! Actually, it does, but I wear my heart on the outside of my body. Does that explain it?
Where do you find inspiration? I find inspiration everywhere. It seems as I look upon everyday things that occur, I am looking through my camera lens even when my camera is not with me. That must seem odd to the non-photographer, however, to me, it is just how I see life. I view the light in my surroundings often. I search for textures and buildings. Driving is my main inspiration. There is so much to find just by driving around and scouting out locations. Magazines are another source of inspiration for me. My children are a huge inspiration as well. They keep my mind young, vibrant and full of ideas.
When you opened shop, what was your promise to your customers? My promise then and now is always customer service, of course. I remember a bride phoning me crying because her mother-in-law had just passed away a month after the wedding, and she was trying to copy pictures at one of those Kodak machines in some one hour location for the funeral. I calmed her down, spoke to the manager and then faxed my ID and business information right away so she could scan those precious last images captured of her mother-in-law for the funeral. It is always about giving your clients your whole self.
What trend do you see coming for weddings? I see unique weddings happening more and more. Themes seem to be where weddings are heading. Traditional seems to be taken over by the latest trend and theme.
Do you regularly blog? If so, what’s your blog site? I do blog. Just started recently because I know people are interested in the recent happenings of my business. The address is jodie-fisher.blogspot.com
Do you Facebook? I do Facebook A LOT and have actually booked weddings, portraits and events from Facebook. It is such a great networking tool. facebook.com/FisherPhotography
Can you share a funny/embarrassing/touching story about one of your clients? When I first started my business, I will never forget this one particular wedding!! It was September 17, 2005. All was great through the day. The weather was perfect! The ceremony was beautiful! The reception was a huge party through dinner and then BAM…Hurricane Rita hit the New Jersey Coast.
It was unreal. The storm was loud…pouring rain, thunder and lighting. The party went on at the yacht club until…all power was lost. The DJ just stood there and was stunned. The yacht club did not have backup power. The only lights were the emergency lights by the doorways. No power = no air conditioning either. The bride just sat down, put her head in her hands and then looked up at me and said, “Are you going to leave now?” I wanted to cry for her. I looked at her and said, “Why would I do that?” Most of her guests left. The few that remained circled around her and her new husband and started singing. They sang “Friends in Low Places” by Garth Brooks.
Even telling this story now, I still get choked up. It was the most special day of her life, and the weather made it interesting to say the least. I remember how the best man was on his cell phone calling for a generator at every local business who supplied them. He finally found one, and the party was restarted once it was powered up for the DJ. It only powered the music but that was all that was needed for one amazing reception after the storm.
The love of the family and friends that remained to celebrate the union of Julie and Jim was something I will never forget. I photographed her sister’s wedding a year and a half later. It was so great to see most of the same family and friends. It was an honor to be selected yet again.
What’s your favorite local restaurant? What’s your favorite local charity? I have many local charities that I give back to. I believe in giving back. I have recently been accepted as a photographer for Wish Upon A Wedding. On my Web site in the about me will tell you more about the charities I have worked with.
What is your favorite fun thing to do locally? I really love to go hiking with my family. California has so many amazing hikes to explore.
Do you have secret vice or indulgence? What is it? I indulge in eating out far too much.
What are you most grateful for in life? I am so grateful for my family and my friends. Okay…who doesn’t say that? It is so true though. I am grateful for the pictures I have of my friends and family who I have lost. When I look back at those pictures, It gives them back to me in a way. The pictures help me remember their crazy smile or funky what-were-they-thinking hair ‘do! The photos give me a sense of peace.
I am so grateful to have professional images of the people I cherish. The down side? I am not in most of the pictures because I am the one behind the camera. Someone told me I should buy a pocket point and shoot camera for family functions so that I can be in some of the pics, too. No one ever knows how to use my camera when it is passed over. I will take that advice!
If you were to plan your own wedding, or re-do your wedding, what elements would be most important to you? If I could plan my wedding day over? I joke about this with my husband often. Too funny that this question is brought up. I would have booked a different photographer. Seriously! I only have a hundred and thirty 5×5 prints still in a proof album AND…the pictures are boring!!
I tell my husband all of the time, “Let’s go to Vegas and renew our vows! Let’s take some fun pictures at a drive through wedding chapel with you dressed as Elvis and me as some starlet. Let’s have fun in life!” He laughs with me and just says, “How about Kauai?” I’ll take that too! A romantic beach wedding with the sunset? Sounds so wonderful! Someday!
The point? I wish my wedding pictures were different. Thirteen years ago? Traditional was in.
What advice would you can give to brides and grooms getting married today? I am not going to say the typical photographer response about make sure you hire the right photographer. That is clearly evident. What I will say? This pertains to after the big day: Just be happy. Enjoy life! Enjoy each other. Rub his stinky feet after his long day of work. Just hold your nose:) Tell her she is beautiful even when the baby spits up on her or her hair is messy and her clothes have snot and finger paint on them from the children.
Remember to still make time for each other as the years go by. Life is about all that happens: the good, the bad and the down right crazy. If you roll with it, your marriage will overcome anything.
Anything else you’d like to share with Real Weddings Magazine’s brides? I am honored to be an advertising vendor in Real Weddings Magazine. I am honored to have the chance to reach out to so many brides and grooms to give them a look into the heart of Fisher Photography. I look forward to discussing the most important day of your lives.

Real Weddings Partner Profiles: Gold Hill Vineyard and Brewery
Welcome back to another installment of Real Weddings Magazine’s Partner Profiles!
This week we highlight Bryna Dacus from Gold Hill Vineyard and Brewery. What a beautiful family owned and operated venue at which to get married! We love that Bryna remembers her dad making wine in the basement of their home when she was just a kid. Take it away Bryna!
Gold Hill Vineyard and Brewery
Tell us a little about your company? It all started in the basement of the house I grew up in in Palo Alto. My father made a 1975 Cabernet Sauvignon. In 1980, a good friend who owned property in Placerville found this great plot of land. The soil was perfect for grapes and my father saw considerable potential and Gold Hill Vineyard was born. The location is so beautiful and serene that he decided to share it with couples getting married. He created two venues for weddings and/or receptions. Couples are treated like family, and we enjoy having them return on anniversaries for years.
When did you establish your business? The winery was bonded in 1985 and the brewery has been in operation since 2000.
What sets you apart from your competition? We have wine and beer that are produced on site. For weddings, couples don’t need to worry about where they are going to source beverages for their guests. We have California Champagne for the toast and award-winning wines and beers for the reception. We’re the only winery in El Dorado County that has an onsite brewery. Our 49r Red Ale won Best of Show at the State Fair this year.
Where do you find inspiration? From the vineyards. It reminds me that you can achieve a dream if you work really hard. I helped plant many of the vines when I was kid so I guess you could say I’m invested in the place. To me, Gold Hill represents my father’s dream and I am fortunate to be a part of that on a daily basis.
Do you Facebook? Yes, friend us on Facebook here!
Do you have secret vice or indulgence? What is it? Wine…duh.
What are you most grateful for in life? My husband, family and friends. I’m blessed.
If you were to plan your own wedding, or re-do your wedding, what elements would be most important to you? I did plan my own wedding here in 2007. I was able to work with some fantastic local wedding professionals. The only thing I would change is to make it last longer. It was the perfect day.
What advice would you can give to brides and grooms getting married today? Try not to get stressed out. It’s your day; make it yours because it goes by fast. And, a good MC/DJ is really important to keep things on track.

Real Weddings Partner Profiles: White Daisy Photography
Welcome back to another installment of Real Weddings Magazine’s Partner Profiles!
This week we highlight super sweet Aimee Fredy from White Daisy Photography. We totally dig Aimee’s fresh and timeless style. This girl is way talented (behind the camera and off the diving board!). Take it away Aimee!
White Daisy Photography
Tell us a little bit about your company: I am based out of the Auburn area but I travel worldwide. 90% of what I photograph are weddings and engagements, but I do open up about 10 spots a year for families and children.
My goal is to provide my clients with a totally stress free wedding photography experience. I am doing this because I love it, and I have a blast at each and every wedding. I do fully edit each and every photograph my clients receive because that’s just my style. My editing style is fresh, crisp and timeless with an occasional hint of vintage.
When did you establish your business: 2010
What sets you apart from your competition: I may be the only person who doesn’t think they have any competition. Yup! That’s right. No competitors. How is that possible? Well it’s easy. There is only one White Daisy Photography. No one else can see my vision for a photo, my editing style is all my own, and I want people to come to me because of that. I can’t force someone to like my style. Either you do or you don’t. I want someone to hire me because they love my work.
Where do you find inspiration: There are so many amazing photographers out there, and I love stalking their blogs! Also taking sunrise and sunset drives. That’s the best way to see the world and find those amazing locations.
When you opened shop, what was your promise to customers: To provide modern wedding photography with a boutique experience. I take a limited amount of weddings per year so that I can provide each couple with the best one on one experience possible. It’s all about quality not quantity!
Do you have any hidden talents: Not exactly hidden but I was a competitive acrobat and springboard diver.
Do you regularly blog: Yes, as much as I can with two small children! whitedaisyphoto.com/blog
What’s your favorite local restaurant: Joe Caribe in Auburn. Amazing and totally worth the drive. The habanero sauce is addictive!
What is your favorite thing to do locally: Eat. Seriously. All I do is talk about food.
Do you have a secret vice or indulgence: Dr. Pepper. In a can. Ice cold.
What are you most grateful for in life: My husband and kids. Don’t know what I would do with out them!
If you were to plan your own wedding, or re-do your wedding what elements would be most important to you: Photography. I know you probably expected that answer but when I got married six years ago I was NOT a wedding photographer and I still felt that those photographs were the most important part of my day and I made sure to not skimp on it. You can’t do the day over!
What advice would you give to brides and grooms getting married today: Show your personality in your wedding. Be creative! Details make all the difference whether it’s a do-it-yourself wedding or an unlimited budget. And, have fun planning your wedding!
Anything else you’d like to share with Real Weddings Magazine Brides? I love exploring new locations so all of my engagement sessions added to my clients’ wedding collection have the option for two hours of travel from the Auburn area. That means San Francisco, Lake Tahoe, Napa, etc…. are all fair game for my clients’ session!

Real Weddings Partner Profiles: Beatnik Studios
Welcome back to another installment of Real Weddings Magazine’s Partner Profiles!
This week we highlight the multi-talented Lindsay and Wes from Beatnik Studios! Beatnik Studios is an amazing space that’s both an ideal spot for artists to showcase their work and an uber-cool, urban-chic event venue. There’s always beautiful eye candy to stare at over at Beatnik, but our favorite piece of art comes with four legs. You have to meet Beatnik’s mascot, Stella, the most gorgeous Great Dane we’ve ever seen. All of us here at Real Weddings Magazine are in love with this pup! Take it away Lindsay and Wes!
Beatnik Studios
Tell us a little about your company? Beatnik started as a photography studio and has now grown into so much more. Most people don’t know that when we originally started we set out to create a photography co-op. While we are still home to five local photography members we also host public and private events and have a 2,000 square foot gallery.
When did you establish your business? May 2008.
What sets you apart from your competition? Probably what sets us apart most from our competition is the inherent architecture and unique style that Beatnik provides. Most people that come to Beatnik say they feel like they stepped into a remodeled warehouse in New York. Our exposed brick, sleek glass walls, stained concrete floors and modern kitchen usually make anyone’s knees weak.
Where do you find inspiration? We find most of our inspiration in photographing, looking through favorite magazines and late nights spent searching for the new and cool blogs.
When you opened shop, what was your promise to your customers? To provide a space that nurtures local art, music and good times. And, of course, a studio where our photo buddies can always plug in.
Do you have any hidden talents? Wes is a very good Skateboarder, and Lindsay played basketball at Sacramento State. We also make a mean Bloody Mary.
Do you regularly blog? If so, what’s your blog site? Yes, beatnik-studios.blogspot.com, lumiphotographyblog.com and wesdavisimaging.wordpress.com
What’s your favorite local restaurant? Tres Hermanas for Mexican, The Sandwich Spot for the best Saucy Sandy, and The Grange or Roxy’s for superb drinks and stellar cuisine.
What’s your favorite local charity? Concerts for Charity is awesome! Clay is a good friend of ours and is so dedicated to the arts and music scene in Sacramento.
What is your favorite fun thing to do locally? Going to local live music shows — can’t wait for music in the park to start up again.
Do you have secret vice or indulgence? What is it? Cookies and mayonnaise… but not together.
What are you most grateful for in life? I am most thankful for my health and having such awesome family and friends.
If you were to plan your own wedding, or re-do your wedding, what elements would be most important to you? Photography is super important to me but I know that all the details are what help make the photography rock so this is a toughy… I am really set on a destination wedding so besides having an amazing photographer, I would love to get married with the sound of the ocean in the background.
What advice would you can give to brides and grooms getting married today? When you have a “moment” on your wedding day soak it up. Most of my brides and grooms say the day just flies by and is gone before you know it. And get a good photographer who can capture those moments so you can relive them for a life time.
Anything else you’d like to share with Real Weddings Magazine’s brides? We are a new venue and super excited to help you make your day what you want it to be. We don’t impose on you lots of regulations or minimum purchases of wine or food. We give you a beautiful canvas to get your creative juices flowing, but we like to let you bring individuality and your own unique flavor to your wedding.
