Real Weddings Sunday: Presenting Alissa and Michael Koeth

The Couple:  Alissa and Michael Koeth

Wedding Date:  September 25, 2011

Photography by True Love Photo

Tell us a little about you and your beloved:  Michael and I dated for almost 10 years before tying the knot. We were high school sweethearts, who started dating at the ages of 16 and 15. Michael got down on one knee while on a vacation at Disneyland, in front of Snow White’s Wishing Well!

What was the most amazing part of your day?  Every single moment on our wedding day was magical. Wine & Roses is such a beautiful, classy venue — we were treated like royalty throughout the whole experience with them. The venue was incredible, the food was absolutely wonderful, everything went off perfectly. The most amazing part, however, had to be sharing every magical moment with my husband.

Real Weddings Sunday: Presenting Christina and David Cooney

The Couple:  Christina and David Cooney

Wedding Date:  September 24, 2011

Photography by Capture Photography

Tell us a little about you and your beloved:  David and I met in high school, yes we are high school sweethearts. We complement each other perfectly. He is an idealistic dreamer, and I am a practical realist. He taught me how to to dream, and I bring him back to reality when he’s gone too far.

We had been together for five years when he asked me to be his wife one lovely day on the beach, and almost two years after that is when we got married. We have so much fun together. We go on crazy adventures and love trying new things. We want to travel the world together, exploring new worlds and cultures. We’re both completely in love with each other, I guess that’s all that really matters.

What was the most amazing part of your day?  Our first dance. We choreographed it ourselves, which was a huge feat because we both lack rhythm. We must have listened to Frank Sinatra’s “Fly me to The Moon” hundreds of times and spent countless hours dancing around our living room bumping into shelves and walls. It was exhausting and we were both beginning to want to just give up on our dance, but when our big moment came it was perfect! All of our hard work paid off, we nailed each move and had so much fun. I just remember looking into David’s eyes with pure joy and exhilaration. When it was over, everyone was cheering and amazed. It was perfect.

What else would you like to share about your big day?  Our wedding would not have been possible without the amazing help from our loved ones. They encouraged us, helped with every detail from small to large, invested their time and efforts, and made our day truly amazing. We are forever grateful.

Ceremony Site & Reception Venue:  Empire Mine State Historic Park

Photographer:  Capture Photography

Videographer:  Arty Flores

Caterer:  A family friend

Cake:  A family friend

Flowers:  Budding Events for my bouquet, hair piece and David’s boutonniere. Flowers for the tables were ordered from Fifty Flowers and made by the bridal party.

Favors:  Caramel Apple lollipops, decorated by the bridal party

Wedding Dress:  David’s Bridal

Bridesmaid Dresses:  The Jersey Maid on Etsy

Hair & Makeup:  Ambre Rose from It’s All About You Salon

Invitations:  Purchased at Michael’s and decorated (stamped) by the bride

Honeymoon location:  Grand Bahama Island

First Dance Song:  “Fly me to The Moon” by Frank Sinatra

Any advice you’d give to our readers who are planning their weddings right now?  Enjoy it, seriously. Everyone says that your wedding day goes by so fast, and they’re completely right. Soak up every second and enjoy every detail. Don’t freak out if something goes wrong. This day is about expressing your love of one another, don’t forget that.

Anything that you would have done differently if you were given the chance?  Honestly, I would have hired a different DJ. There were a few slight, but significant in a bride’s mind — slip ups that I would have like to avoided if given the chance. But, overall, the day went perfect and smooth. We couldn’t be happier.

Real Weddings Sunday: Presenting Erin and Ben Benson

The Couple:  Erin and Ben Benson

Wedding Date:  August 5, 2011

Photography by The Goodness

Tell us a little about you and your beloved:  Erin is a first grade teacher at a brand new charter school that recently opened in Roseville,  John Adams Academy. She lives and breathes teaching! She also loves her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (Dottie), and Rudy the boxer, too. Ben has worked at Northrop Grumman for the past two years. He loves playing golf and tennis. We enjoy going to country concerts, taking small road trips and spending time with family. We share a love/hate relationship with the Red Sox and Patriots! Lastly, we enjoy walking the dogs (even though they are NOT trained)!

What was the most amazing part of your day?  Every part and detail of the day was simply amazing, it’s nearly impossible to choose just one! For Erin, it had to be walking down the aisle and seeing Ben (and his reaction) for the first time. For Ben, it had to be seeing Erin for the first time and knowing everything was perfect!

What else would you like to share about your big day?  Where to start? From the gorgeous weather to the beautiful colors; the candy bar to the root beer floats; the dancing down the aisle to the photo booth; we could go on forever! Overall, we were just in awe at all the love and happiness that filled the day and being able to share all of that with our family and closest friends! Nearly half of the 180 guests were family and we wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.

Ceremony Site & Reception Venue & Caterer:  Whitney Oaks Golf Club

Photographer:  The Goodness

Videographer:  Phillip Alan Films. View our short film here. Even more amazingly, we only booked him weeks before the wedding yet he wildly exceeded our expectations!

Wedding Planner:  The bride and her mom, Ellen, did all of the planning; along with great support from Lindsey Qualley at Whitney Oaks Golf Club in addition to all of the vendors.

Cake & Dessert Bar:  Sweet Cakes by Rebecca

Flowers:  Galeazi’s Floral

Favors:  Customized Jones Soda bottles

Wedding Dress & Bridesmaid Dresses:  De La Rosa’s Bridal and Tuxedo

Hair:  Arlene Culbreth

Makeup:  Arlene Culbreth & JoJo Culbreth

Invitations:  Scarlett Designs

DJ/Entertainment/Band & Photo Booth:  Encore Entertainment

Honeymoon location:  Las Vegas (only after cancelling the cruise because Erin landed her dream teaching job)

Any other of your wedding vendor(s) you’d like to call out?  We’d like to thank four more Roseville/Rocklin vendors that helped pull the weekend together: Picasso Nails, The Old Spaghetti Factory, Springhill Suites and Hyatt Place.

We would also like to use this space to sincerely thank each vendor again. We truly believe we could not have made better choices! They were all extremely responsive, trustworthy, and overall…professional!

First Dance Song:  “Everything” by Michael Buble

Any advice you’d give to our readers who are planning their weddings right now?  Don’t sweat the small stuff. Focus on what’s truly important — your future spouse and your families. Be sure to take in every moment as the day will be over before you know it. Lastly, don’t let anyone or anything ruin your day.

Anything that you would have done differently if you were given the chance?  If anything, we wish we would have started the day a few hours earlier as it goes by so quickly. Also, it would have been nice if the Red Sox would have beaten the Yankees that day!

Real Weddings Sunday: Presenting Krista Parker and Kyle Danielson

The Couple:
Krista Parker and Kyle Danielson

Wedding Date:  September 17, 2011

Photography by Justin Buettner Photography

Tell us a little about you and your beloved:  Kyle and I are both natives of northern California. He is in law enforcement, and I’m in human resources. We spent about six months as just friends before we officially started dating. All of our friends and family say that we weren’t just friends and were dating, but we just say that there is nothing better than falling in love with your best friend.

Kyle is pretty quiet and reserved, while he says that I can’t keep my mouth from moving. I like to think that is what makes our relationship work, but once Kyle starts talking, he sometimes doesn’t stop!

His three words to describe me are: outgoing, talkative and organized. Being organized really helped with planning the wedding and having everything run smoothly. My words for him are: reserved, tinkerer (is that even a word?) and thoughtful. Kyle likes to tinker/take apart anything, and he always has something in his hands. In fact, in one of our wedding photos he’s wearing his ring, but spinning it around his finger while he is giving his speech. He always has to be working on something!

What was the most amazing part of your day?  The whole day was amazing! Everything came together just like I imagined, and I love all the memories that day. I will say that my favorite part was walking down the aisle and seeing Kyle’s face. I loved how he was looking past everyone standing up and couldn’t wait to see me. I think a close second was cutting the cake and it getting all over! Kyle made sure to smash it in my face and up my nose. I tried to seek revenge, but his arms are longer!

What else would you like to share about your big day?  We got in the wrong car after the ceremony… Our groomsmen had spent some time decorating our car, but whoever moved the car, moved our friend’s car instead of our car and we couldn’t figure out why they were so insistent to get in the car. Then they pulled up in our car (which was outfitted with every crazy thing you could imagine). It was one of those little things you will never forget!

Ceremony Site & Reception Venue:  Saluti Cellars

Photographer & Videographer:  Justin Buettner Photography

Wedding Planner:  I planned everything myself. You can ask the wedding party, they all had little binders and knew where they were supposed every minute of the wedding day. The groomsmen said I was crazy, but my friend who set everything up and my bridesmaids were very thankful for all of the info.

Caterer:  Capital City Event Management. We wanted really good food, but were on a tight budget. Amy, the chef and Brigitte, the event manager, were AWESOME! Everyone at the wedding ranted and raved about the tri-tip and the chicken rouladen was delicious! I would recommend them to anyone asking for a caterer!

Cake:  D’Agostini’s Delights (the cake was delicious and gorgeous!)

Flowers:  Placerville Flower Market. April set up all of the flowers for the ceremony perfectly! I could not have imagined how perfect it could have come together!

Favors:  My grandmother and I painted wine glasses for each guest. We purchased plain wine glasses and painted them with different designs. Each table at the wedding had a theme that corresponded to something Kyle and I had done together or planned to do. For example: Bodega Bay was our first vacation and I made it a point to find sea shells in the sand, but could only find one sand dollar. That table’s wine glass had waves and sand with one sand dollar on the base.

Wedding Dress & Bridesmaid Dresses:  Enchanted Bridal & Tuxedo Shoppe

Hair & Makeup:  Jessica Wuthrich

Invitations:  DIY. I had IPS printing print the wording, and had my bridal party over to put everything together. It was super expensive to order the invitations I liked from one of the printing company books and I thought “I can do this for cheap!” I was a little off in my budgeting, but it did come out for less than a third of the price of ordering them!

DJ/Entertainment/Band:  I would NOT recommend my DJ as he was probably the worst part of the wedding. He showed up in shorts and flip flops to the wedding and his sound system was not very good, and he didn’t announce anything.

Honeymoon location:  We went on a cruise to the Mexican Riviera. We visited Puerta Vallarta, Cabo, Ensanada and Manzanillo. It was 10 days of relaxation and was AWESOME!

First Dance Song:  ”Good Morning Beautiful” by Steve Holy

Any advice you’d give to our readers who are planning their weddings right now?  Be organized, take a moment to just sit back and take it all in, and research your vendors. Oh, and try to remember that this is the only time you are getting married and it is supposed to be fun! If you aren’t having fun, enlist help! You get overwhelmed and then things don’t get done or don’t get done as nicely as they could.

Anything that you would have done differently if you were given the chance?  I didn’t call all of the references and when my DJ showed up in shorts and had horrible equipment and didn’t announce things as planned, I was pretty disappointed. Although we had that hiccup, it was the only thing that was really “bad” that day.
